This accessibility guide provides practical information about accessibility features at our hotel to support guests with physical, sensory, or other access needs when planning their stay.

1. Welcome 

Welcome to Maldron Hotel Portlaoise, where comfort, convenience and a warm Irish welcome come together to create a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Whether you are visiting for business, a family break, or simply passing through the Midlands, our team is dedicated to ensuring your experience with us is comfortable, memorable, and inclusive for all our guests. 

We believe everyone should be able to enjoy our hotel with dignity, independence, and ease, and we are continually working to improve accessibility across our facilities and services. 

Ideally located just off Junction 17 of the M7 motorway and only a short drive from the town centre, Maldron Hotel Portlaoise provides the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area. Guests have easy access to local attractions such as Emo Court and the scenic Slieve Bloom Mountains, while still being within convenient reach of major cities like Dublin, Cork, and Limerick. 

The hotel features 90 spacious and comfortable guest bedrooms, designed to provide a restful stay for individuals, couples and families. Guests can enjoy delicious food and drinks in our Grain & Grill Bar and Restaurant, offering a welcoming atmosphere for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For relaxation and recreation, visitors also have access to the Club Vitae Leisure Centre, which includes a 20-metre swimming pool, fully equipped gym, sauna and steam room.

Maldron Hotel Portlaoise is conveniently located just off Junction 17 of the M7 motorway, making it easily accessible for guests travelling by car. The hotel is only a few minutes from the centre of Portlaoise and offers complimentary on-site parking for guests. 

For those travelling by public transport, Portlaoise Railway Station is located approximately 5 minutes away by taxi and provides regular rail services to and from Dublin, Cork and other major Irish cities. 

Whether you are arriving by car, train, or taxi, our convenient Midlands location makes Maldron Hotel Portlaoise an easy and comfortable destination to reach.

4. Entrance & Reception 

Building Entrance 

At Maldron Hotel Portlaoise Street, we aim to ensure that all guests can enter the hotel safely and comfortably.

Please be aware there is one step up from the carpark to the front of the hotel. 

There is a ramp provided adjacent to the hotel entrance. This provides step-free access for wheelchair users, guests with mobility aids, and those with other accessibility requirements. This allows all guests to enter the hotel easily and safely. Access then is a smooth, level route leading directly to the reception area. 

The front door is not automatic; our team is always happy to provide guidance or additional assistance if required. 

Please contact Reception before or during your visit if you would like support entering the building.

Parking 

At Maldron Hotel Portlaoise, we aim to make access to the hotel easy and convenient for all guests, including those with mobility needs. 

Designated Accessible Parking Designated accessible parking bays are available in our car park, located close to the main entrance. These bays are clearly marked and can be used by guests displaying a Blue Badge or equivalent international disability parking permit. Please contact Reception in advance if you would like guidance on the best parking option.

5. Lift Access

The hotel spans multiple levels, and lifts are available to provide access between floors as an alternative to stairs. An evacuation chair is available to assist in the event of an emergency. Guests who require guidance on accessing specific areas or assistance during their visit are encouraged to contact Reception before or during their stay.

6. Accessible Public Toilets

There are two wheelchair-accessible toilets available in the main public areas. It features step-free access, grab rails, and an emergency assistance alarm to ensure safety and convenience.

7. Accessible Bedroom

At Maldron Hotel Portlaoise, we aim to provide comfortable and accessible bedrooms and bathrooms for all guests. 

We provide wheelchair-accessible bedrooms and bathrooms to ensure comfort, independence, and safety for guests with mobility needs. 

Wheelchair-Accessible Bedrooms 

We have 5 wheelchair-accessible bedrooms available, providing step-free access and sufficient space to move around comfortably. Double bed configurations are available across wheelchair-accessible bedrooms.

Furniture Rearrangement To create additional space for comfort or accessibility, furniture in bedrooms can be rearranged on request. Please contact Reception before or during your stay if you would like this service

8. Accessible Bathrooms/En-Suites

2 of the wheelchair-accessible bathrooms have a roll-in shower, offering step-free access, a transfer space by the toilet, grab rails, and an emergency assistance alarm. 

Shower Facilities 

A free-standing shower chair is available in the accessible bathrooms to support safe and comfortable bathing. 

Emergency Assistance Alarm 

Emergency assistance alarms are installed in our wheelchair-accessible bedrooms and bathrooms, allowing guests to call for help quickly if required

9. Dining & Social Spaces

Access to Public Areas 

At Maldron Hotel Portlaoise, we aim to ensure that guests can move around the hotel safely and comfortably. Once inside the hotel we offer Step-Free Access throughout. An elevator provides access to different levels, allowing guests using wheelchairs or mobility aids to navigate the hotel with ease.

Restaurant and Bar 

At Maldron Hotel Portlaoise Street, we aim to ensure that all guests can enjoy food and beverage facilities comfortably and safely. 

Wheelchair-Accessible Bar and Restaurant 

Our Bar and Restaurant are wheelchair-accessible. Guests using wheelchairs or mobility aids can enter and exit the outlet via step-free access and move comfortably within the space. Doorways and aisles are wide enough for easy manoeuvrability, and accessible seating areas are provided with tables at suitable heights. 

Quieter Table 

A table located in a quieter area is available for guests who prefer reduced noise. This space is away from kitchen entrances, service areas, and audio speakers, providing a calm dining environment. 

Table Service 

Table service is available for all guests. Guests who require assistance can request table service if needed, ensuring a comfortable and convenient dining experience. 

10. Safety & Staff Training

Disability Awareness and Equality Training 

Disability awareness and equality training is provided for our staff. This training is delivered as part of staff induction and refreshed regularly, particularly for customer-facing team members. Training supports staff in communicating respectfully, offering appropriate assistance, and responding to individual access needs with confidence and sensitivity. Our team is committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive experience for all guests.

Assistance Available 24 Hours 

Guest assistance is available 24 hours a day. A member of the hotel team is available at all times to provide assistance. Support is available for arrival and departure, accessing facilities, or responding to any accessibility-related queries during your stay. Guests are encouraged to contact Reception (Dial 0) at any time should assistance be required.

Emergency Evacuation Plans 

Emergency evacuation plans are in place to support guests with disabilities or access requirements. Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) can be developed for guests staying in the hotel, where required. These plans consider the individual needs of guests to support a safe and timely evacuation in the event of an emergency. Guests with specific evacuation requirements are encouraged to inform Reception on arrival so appropriate arrangements can be discussed.

Facilities & Equipment 

At Maldron Hotel Portlaoise, we aim to make your stay as comfortable and accessible as possible. The following facilities are available to support guests with specific access needs:

 Emergency Alarm with Vibrating Pillow Pad: A vibrating pillow pad alarm is available on request for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing. This device provides a gentle vibration to alert you in the event of a fire or other emergency while sleeping. Please contact Reception if you would like to use this service. 

Wheelchair Availability 

Wheelchairs are available on request for guests who need mobility assistance. Please contact the hotel in advance or speak to Reception on arrival to arrange a wheelchair.

Emergency & Medical Information 

Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise 

Main public hospital serving County Laois and surrounding areas. Located on Dublin Road, Portlaoise and has a 24-hour Emergency Department for urgent cases. Also provides acute medical care, maternity services, and outpatient services. 

Cedar Clinic Portlaoise 

Local General Practitioner in Portlaoise. Provides routine medical consultations, health checks, vaccinations, and treatment for illnesses. Suitable for residents and visitors requiring medical advice or treatment. 

Pharmacy 

Local Community Pharmacy located on Main Street, Portlaoise. Provides prescription dispensing, over the counter medicine, vaccinations and health advice for minor illnesses and everyday healthcare needs. 

Defibrillator 

There are two defibrillators on site. One located at the reception desk and one located in the Leisure Centre. There is a First Aid trained employee on site 24 hrs. There is a defibrillator located in the Top Square, which is in the centre of Portlaoise town. There are also easily accessible ones in Portlaoise Garda Station and St. Peter and Paul’s Church, both available close to the town centre.
