    Hotel near Theatre Royal Newcastle

Theatre Royal was opened in 1837 and has a capacity of over 1,200 guests. There are many fantastic restaurants around the theatre that offer excellent food options and pre-theatre dinings such as Dat Bar, Tyneside Café, Zizzi Italian, Carluccio’s and Lola Jeans.

The Story of Theatre is a permanent exhibition at the Theatre Royal that is free. It illustrates the tale of theatre and its origins, from kickstarting in Ancient Greece to first being seen outside of London and still being performed up until the present day. The display holds a number of artefacts and memorabilia, including rare 1930s headdresses, Royal Shakespeare Company costumes and scale wooden models of the quayside in Newcastle. There are tours available throughout the day for guests to enjoy a stimulating historic experience of present-day theatre.

Maldron Hotel Newcastle is 4 minutes away from Theatre Royal. The hotel is also just 2 minutes away walking from another historical theatre, Tyne Theatre & Opera House. Opened in 1867, it hosts several performance typers such as comedy, ballet, musicals and live concerts. It’s a Grade I listed building, which means that the construction can’t be altered without special permission due to its historical importance.
