The National Opera House is a theatre opened in 2008 on the Wexford harbour, where it rises above the skyline. The O’Reilly theatre includes 771 seats and the smaller theatre named after Jerome Hynes seats up to 176 guests. The opening of the theatre included a ceremony with the Taoiseach Brian Cowen, which was broadcasted on RTÉ’s The Late Late Show.

The purpose of the theatre apart from arts performances, it is also used for many meeting and hospitality purposes. It includes a number of bars and dining spaces that can be used for private events. The theatre is situated just an hour and a half from Dublin city. It provides as a world-class venue to showcase Irish and international events, music, comedy, theatre, opera and dance performances that visitors can view from the exclusive horseshoe-shaped balconies in the theatre. This type of design was abandoned in the 20th century so it is definitely a unique experience for the audience.

The Wexford Opera Festival takes place in the theatre at the end of October each year, for a duration of 2 weeks. The festival is internationally famous due to the fact that the festival gave life to neglected masterpieces that were forgotten about over the years! Tradition and innovation were balanced so perfectly that gave the festival its enormous status.
