George Square

George Square is the main civic square in Glasgow surrounded by shops, restaurants, the Glasgow City Chambers and Glasgow’s second main train station, Queen Street Station. It is named after King George III and hosts several statues dedicated to notable figures including Scottish poet and lyricist Robert Burns and Scottish inventor James Watt. The prominent 80-foot-high column in the center of the Square is dedicated to renowned author Sir Walter Scott. On the East side of George Square lies the Glasgow Cenotaph, first constructed to commemorate the Glaswegians who lost their lives during the First World War, later being inscribed to include those from the Second World War. A square with rich importance to the lives of Glaswegians and those who visit, it is always worth spending some time here. Staying in a hotel near George Square will leave you very centrally located, and the Maldron Hotel Glasgow City is located a short 10-minute walk away.
