Derry is unquestionably one of the most unique and wonderful cities across the island of Ireland. It is the only remaining walled city in Ireland, and one of the finest examples of a walled city in Europe. The 17th-century walls wrap around the inner city for approximately 1.5km, giving you a rare and beautiful way to see the city from above. This amazing city is steeped in history and heritage, with plenty of cultural attractions to be seen, delicious food and drink to be tasted, and fantastic walking tours that bring its streets to life.
If you are wondering what to do in Derry with just one day, the answer is to move slowly enough to feel the city, but smartly enough to see its highlights. Ideally, you would love a couple of days to really explore all the things to do in derry and get to know it in your own time. However, if you only have one day to do so, don’t be alarmed! 10:30am: Take in the History of Derry’s many Museums
Any trip to Derry is not complete without exploring the many historic museums that the city has to offer. Before heading home definitely take some time to have a look around.
The Tower museum should be near the top of many lists for places to visit in Derry. The museum focuses on the history of Derry as well as being the home of many artefacts from the Armada shipwreck. The museum also boasts an open-air viewing facility, which offers excellent panoramic views of the whole city.
Another unmissable trip is a visit to the Museum of Free Derry, just a 7-minute walk from the hotel. The museums' exhibits offer a moving insight into The Troubles and also the Free Derry Irish nationalist movement in the early 1970’s.
If you're short on time, choose one museum to explore properly. If your schedule allows, both museums complement each other beautifully.
12pm: Walking Tour of the city

9pm: Enjoy the nightlife of Derry
As evening falls, Derry comes alive.
The Craft Village is a lovely place to begin your night before heading to one of the city's renowned pubs. Peadar O'Donnell's is famous for its traditional music sessions and lively atmosphere, while Granny Annie's and Mason's Bar are also excellent choices for food, drinks and live entertainment.
If the days excursions have taken their toll on you, you can always head back to the hotel for a nightcap in our Lyric Bar, before going off for a well-earned night’s sleep.
