Hotel History
Explore the fascinating story about how the Original Airport Hotel in Ireland opened in 1972, before eventually becoming Maldron Hotel Dublin Airport.

June 1972 was an evolving time at Dublin Airport when a brand-new Terminal was opened to cope with the increased passenger demand. Shortly afterwards, the Dublin International Hotel opened its doors, welcoming passengers taking off or touching down at Dublin Airport. At the time, the hotel was part of the Trusthouse Forte Hotel Group having been designed by award-winning architect, Sam Stephenson of Stephenson Gibney & Associates.

Over the past 50 years, 4.5 million guests have been welcomed to the hotel including many Irish and International sporting heroes, the crew of US Air Force 1 back in the 1990’s, as well as many famous religious and political figures. Not forgetting Oscar-winning actors, famous TV personalities, music greats and past Irish Presidents.

It’s true to say 1972-2024 has seen many developments however, 50 years on, the team at Maldron Hotel Dublin Airport still pride themselves on striving to make your stay epic, just like their inspirational predecessors who were part of the original opening team pictured below.
