Living Green is our environmental movement which inspires care for our environment as a “Way of Life” throughout our hotels; both for our people and our guests.
Here at Maldron Hotel Shandon Cork City, we are on a journey to significantly improve our processes and practices to reduce any harmful impacts we are having on the environment. Many new changes have already been implemented and we hope you will notice during your stay with us but we acknowledge this is also a long-term process so we hope you will recognise new improvements every time you return to us.
Tent cards have been placed in all guest bedrooms which highlights waste recycling and towel policies. There is widespread use of LED lighting throughout the hotel with a schedule in place for the changeover of all the remaining lighting. All tea and coffee in the hotel are ethically sourced. With a city centre location, the hotel is in a prime spot for guests and staff to arrive by low carbon means utilising the public transport network nearby, the cycle to work scheme is also encouraged to our staff members.
A stringent recycling and waste management system has been implemented and we are, where possible, choosing items with minimal packaging and asking our suppliers to offer more eco-friendly options. As for suppliers, the majority are local which helps reduce emissions and energy use.
Also, we can’t forget to mention the newest addition to our team – Pat the Penguin! We adopted Pat the Penguin in February 2021 and he is currently working from his home in Fota Wildlife Park. Pat is an important part of the team as he helps to demonstrate our commitment toward conserving our environment and increasing our biodiversity. If visiting Fota, make sure to say hello to Pat!
Here are a few more ways we are trying to make a difference.
