By Car
Maldron Hotel Smithfield is conveniently located in Dublin 7, approximately 12 km (25 minutes) from Dublin Airport. From the airport, take the M1 motorway south toward Dublin City Centre, then follow signs for Dublin 7 and Smithfield.
Parking: We offer secure underground parking accessed from Queen Street. Hotel residents receive a special discounted parking rate from just €18 for 24 hours. Designated accessible parking bays are available within 50 metres of our step-free entrance.
By Public Transport
Luas (Light Rail): The nearest Luas stop is Smithfield on the Red Line, located within 2 minutes' walk of the hotel. The Luas is wheelchair accessible and connects directly to Dublin's main transport hubs.
Bus: Multiple accessible bus routes serve the Smithfield area, including routes 37, 39, 70, and 747 (Airlink from the airport). The nearest accessible bus stops are located on North King Street and Smithfield Square, both within 100 meters of the hotel.
Train: The nearest railway station is Connolly Station, approximately 1.5 km away. Taxis and accessible public transport options are readily available from the station. Irish Rail provides accessibility assistance services, which can be booked in advance by calling 1850 366 222 or visiting www.irishrail.ie.
Taxi Services: We are happy to arrange taxi services for our guests. Several local taxi companies offer wheelchair-accessible vehicles, and we can provide contact details and assistance with booking upon request.
4. Entrance & Reception
24-Hour Assistance Available: Guest assistance is available 24 hours a day through our front desk team. Whether you need help with luggage, information about accessible routes, or any other support, our team is always ready to assist.
Large Print Information: We provide print versions of the following materials upon request:

- Restaurant menus
- Safety information and emergency procedures
- Local area maps and attractions guide
Designated Accessible Parking: Designated accessible parking bays are available in our secure underground car park, accessed from Queen Street. These bays are located within 50 metres of our step-free entrance and do not require a Blue Badge to be displayed, accommodating international visitors.
Step-Free Route: There is a step-free route with a firm surface from the car park to our main entrance. The route provides level access suitable for wheelchair users with no cobbles, bare earth, sand, or unbonded gravel. Clear signage directs guests from the parking area to the accessible entrance.
Luggage Storage: Our 24-hour reception desk offers secure luggage storage for guests arriving before check-in or departing after check-out. Staff are available to assist with luggage handling.
Express Check-In/Check-Out: Express check-in and check-out services are available to minimise waiting times. For guests who prefer to avoid queues, we can facilitate room-key collection and departure procedures with minimal interaction.
5. Lift Access
Lift Access: Passenger lifts are available between all floors, providing an alternative to stairs throughout the hotel. The lifts accommodate wheelchairs and mobility aids comfortably. Evacuation chair is also available on second floor in case of emergency.
Stairs: Our staircases feature high-contrast edges, handrails, and tactile paving at the top and bottom to ensure safe navigation for guests with vision impairments.
6. Accessible Public Toilets
Wheelchair Accessible Toilets in Public Areas: We have dedicated wheelchair-accessible toilets designed for wheelchair users and others with visible and non-visible accessibility requirements available in our main public areas on the ground floor. These facilities feature as a minimum:
- Step-free access
- A manoeuvring space of 1600mm x 1600mm
- An outward opening door with a minimum width of 800mm
- Transfer space on at least one side of the toilet with a drop-down grab rail on the transfer side
- Horizontal grab rail positioned on the wall adjacent to the toilet
- An emergency assistance alarm within reach from the floor
Our accessible toilets are never used as storage spaces, and the transfer space next to the toilet is always kept clear.
Note: A Changing Places toilet is not currently available at this facility. The nearest is at the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, 16-22 Green Street, Dublin 7 (1.2km away), open Mon-Fri 9am-1pm & 2pm-5pm.
7. Accessible Bedroom
Ground Floor Rooms: Bedrooms are located on floors 1 to 6 (no ground floor bedrooms available)
In-Room Fridges: Small fridges are available upon request (not standard in rooms).
Hypoallergenic Bedding: Hypoallergenic bedding is available upon request for guests with allergies or sensitivities. Please inform our reservations team when booking.
Furniture Rearrangement: To create additional space in bedrooms, furniture can be rearranged upon request. Please contact our team in advance or upon check-in, and we will be happy to accommodate your needs.
Semi-Accessible Rooms: We offer 5 semi-accessible rooms specifically designed to accommodate wheelchair users and others with mobility impairments. These rooms feature as a minimum:
- Step-free access
- A minimum door width of 800mm
- Enhanced internal circulation space
- Emergency assistance alarms (visual and audible)
- En-suite bathrooms with bathtubs and grab rails
Bed Height: The bed height in our semi-accessible rooms is approximately 640mm from floor to top of mattress, designed to facilitate easier transfers for wheelchair users. The space underneath the bed (from floor to bed base) is approximately 45mm, allowing clearance for mobile hoists.
Twin or Double Bed Configurations: Our semi-accessible rooms are available in double bed configurations only.
Note: Mobile or ceiling-track hoists are not available on-site. Guests requiring hoisting equipment may bring their own portable hoist.
Adjoining Rooms: Adjoining room configurations can be arranged upon request for guests requiring additional space or for those travelling with carers or family members. Please contact our reservations team to discuss availability and arrangements.
8. Accessible Bathrooms/En-Suites
Rooms with Separate Shower Units: All bedrooms feature shower over bath. Our 5 semi-accessible rooms (one per floors 1-5) have a lower bath height for easier access with handrails.

- A manoeuvring space suitable for wheelchair users
- An inward opening door with a minimum width of 800mm
- Bathtub with transfer space alongside
- Grab rails positioned by the toilet, washbasin, and bath
- Emergency assistance alarm within reach from the floor
- Slip-resistant flooring when wet and dry
Emergency Assistance Alarms: All semi-accessible rooms include emergency assistance alarms activated by a red pull cord. These alarms are linked to our 24-hour reception desk and are responded to without delay. Emergency alarms are regularly checked and tested to ensure reliability.
Shower Chairs: Guests may bring their own free-standing shower chair for use in accessible bathrooms.
Bath Transfers: Our bathtubs in semi-accessible rooms feature transfer space and grab rails to facilitate safe bathing. Guests may bring their own shower chair for additional support
9. Dining & Social Spaces
Wheelchair-Accessible Food and Beverage Outlet: Our on-site restaurant and bar are wheelchair accessible, featuring:
- Step-free entry and exit
- Wide doorways with a minimum width of 960mm
- Wide aisles allowing comfortable manoeuvrability for wheelchairs and mobility aids
- Accessible seating areas with tables at appropriate heights
Quieter Seating: We can provide seating in quieter areas of the restaurant, away from kitchen entrances and high-traffic zones where noise is minimised. Please inform our restaurant team of your preference when being seated.
Dietary Requirements: Our restaurant caters for a wide range of dietary requirements, including:

- Dairy-free and lactose-free options
- Vegan and vegetarian options
- Nut-free options
- Food allergies and intolerances

Step-Free Access to Most Areas: Maldron Hotel Smithfield provides step-free access to all key public areas, including:

Wheelchair-Accessible Common Areas: All common areas of the hotel, including our lobby, lounge areas, and business facilities, are wheelchair accessible with step-free access and wide doorways.
Table Service: While our restaurant operates on a self-service basis during breakfast service, table service is available upon request for guests who require this accommodation. Please inform a member of our restaurant team, and they will be happy to assist.
10. Assistance Dogs
Facilities for Assistance Dogs: We welcome assistance dogs and provide facilities including water bowls. As the hotel has no private outdoor space, an outdoor toilet area for assistance dogs is available in Smithfield Square, located directly adjacent to the hotel entrance (approximately 20 meters away).
Please inform our team upon arrival if you are travelling with an assistance dog so we can ensure appropriate arrangements are in place.
Irish equality legislation gives Guide Dog and Assistance Dog owners the right to access our services without discrimination, and we are proud to welcome all assistance animals.
11. Safety & Staff Training
Disability Awareness Training: All staff members at Maldron Hotel Smithfield receive comprehensive disability awareness and equality training on induction, with regular refresher training for customer-facing team members. Our commitment to inclusive service is reflected in our team's approach to hospitality.
Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEP): We have comprehensive Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans in place for guests with disabilities or access requirements. These plans are developed with individual guests to ensure swift and safe evacuation in an emergency. Our staff are trained to implement these plans effectively, and emergency evacuation chair is available on the second floor.
Free Familiarisation Visits: We welcome guests to arrange a complimentary familiarisation visit ahead of booking or visiting to familiarise themselves or others with our venue at no additional cost. Please contact our team to schedule your visit.
Emergency Alarms with Visual Alerts: Our 5 semi-accessible rooms are equipped with emergency alarms that feature both audible and visual (flashing light) alerts to ensure all guests are notified in emergency situations.
Vibrating Pillow Alarms: Vibrating pillow pad alarms are available upon request for deaf and hard of hearing guests. These portable devices alert guests to fire or other emergency scenarios when sleeping by vibrating the pillow when the audible alarm sounds. Please request this equipment when making your reservation or upon check-in.
Wheelchair and Equipment Charging: Designated charging points are available for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Please contact our front desk team, who will direct you to the nearest charging location
Multilingual Staff: Our team includes multilingual staff members who can provide assistance in multiple languages.
Tour and Transport Assistance: Our concierge team is available to provide information about accessible local attractions, arrange accessible transport, and assist with booking accessible tours and experiences in Dublin.
