Galway Jazz Festival

According to the Irish Times, the Galway Jazz Festival is a ‘boutique festival with a big heart and growing international credibility’, and it is returning this year in October.

This is a popular destination for jazz lovers not only locally and nationally but internationally. Musicians come from all around the world to join in on the festivities every year with artists from Germany, Britain, United States and Norway known to make the trip to Galway annually. Irish artists also feature prominently in the lineup.

Galway has a strong cultural tradition for music and especially for Jazz with events happening year round. This festival celebrates this tradition and aims to promote jazz as a contemporary art form in the west of Ireland.

Vodafone Comedy Carnival

Vodafone Comedy Carnival is back in Galway this year takes place every year in October. Some of the best acts from Ireland, UK and the United States last year performed in Galway for a week of laughs to remember. Big names such as Al Porter, Patton Oswalt and Reginald D Hunter, all performed spectacularly well last year! Acts are hosted in the Black Box Theatre and Town Hall Theatre as well as the Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent which will be set up in Eyre Square.

This bejewelled spectacular venue is the iconic centre of the event and really lends a carnival atmosphere. The full line up of acts performing throughout the week will be available from August so make sure to keep an eye on their website in the run-up to the carnival. Galway Abooo Halloween Festival

We take the Halloween season very seriously here in Galway! There is a whole festival dedicated to the spookiest time of the year, the Galway Abooo Halloween Festival.

There’s a whole host of different events organised for the whole family. Here’s just a few examples of what to expect:

Macnas Halloween Parade

Macnas, the world famous street theatre group, will be celebrating the Halloween season in style with a spectacular parade through the streets of Galway. This promises to be a feast for the eyes going by previous years! From witches to giants, goblins and ghouls, it’s difficult to say what this year’s parade will feature. The theme of the parade will be announced shortly.

Carnevil

The Connacht Tribune printing press on Market Street will be the home of the spookiest scare factory in the west for the few weeks leading up to Halloween night. If you feel up to it, head over to Market Street to prove your bravery!

Galway Ghost Ship

A haunted fishing trawler will be docked on the Claddagh Quay in the lead up to Halloween night. The bravest trick or treaters will be called upon to come along and here the ghost stories from seanchaí onboard. Halloween costumes are encouraged and entry is free.

We will be hosting our own special Halloween themed Crafty Kids Club during the midterm break too so that the little ones can dress up and celebrate Halloween while they’re away.

St Patrick's Festival

Galway is the place to be on St Patrick’s weekend! The city is bursting with culture and on St Patrick’s Day, the Irish culture is celebrated in a most spectacular way. All of Galway’s most famous arts and theatre groups will be showcasing their talents during the festival and it will also provide a platform for the many international groups that will be exhibiting Galway’s rich and diverse cultural fabric.

After the parade, there will be street performances and live entertainment all over the city as the festival kicks into full swing! Take a stroll through the cobbled streets and breathe in the festival atmosphere. If weather permits, a walk along the Salthill prom is sure to blow the cobwebs off.

Galway Christmas Festival

Galway really comes alive with a magical atmosphere throughout the city. It’s the perfect time to visit the City of the Tribes for a winter break, a romantic getaway or just a last minute Christmas shopping break!

Christmas Markets

The famous Christmas markets bring with them the traditional smells and sounds of Christmas. With festive treats and handmade gifts, this is the perfect place to soak up some atmosphere during your break in Galway.

Elf Town

Elf Town Galway has become enormously popular as a destination for families during Christmas time. Located in the middle of the city, this visit to Santa will be one to remember!

Shopping in Galway

Galway is known as an excellent shopping destination where you’ll find all the high street stores you expect as well as original boutiques and charming market stalls. It’s the perfect place to pick up some last minute gifts as well as treats for yourself!

Santa’s Workshop at Aillwee Caves

Just over an hour’s drive from the Maldron Oranmore, visit Santa’s Workshop at Aillwee Caves. The caves will host Santa and his elves over the Christmas season offering a magical experience for all the boys and girls who visit.

Ted Festival

TedFest is a festival celebrating the legendary series Father Ted as well as the life of Dermot Morgan who played the title character. Take to the largest of the Aran Islands just off the west coast and enjoy the fun and Father Ted themed entertainment during the festival!

The festival is now running over ten years and going from strength to strength every year. It has gained almost cult status with many of its attendees coming to the festival religiously (pardon the pun) since it began. Some of Ireland’s biggest comedy stars appear during the weekend such as Tommy Tiernan and Joe Rooney, who played roles in the original show.

Several events are planned for the festival including the Craggy Island Hayride and BBQ, Matchmaking with Nellie and the Craggy Island Ceili. Many competitions are also held such as the Lovely Girls, Nun’s Beach Volleyball and Loveliest Horse. The All Priests and Nuns Five A Side Craggy Cup is a particular highlight of the weekend so make sure you come prepared!

Joe Watty’s Bar is the place to be every night with quizzes and live entertainment during the festival. It is encouraged to come to the festival dressed as your favourite character to really get into the swing of Craggy Island life. You’re sure to bump into several Mrs Doyles and Father Jacks during your time there! You never know, if you make enough priest and nuns friends during your time there, it might even become an annual pilgrimage!

Galway Film Fleadh

Celebrating the finest in film, the Galway Film Fleadh is a must for all cinema lovers. Taking place every year in July, it is Ireland’s leading film festival welcoming directors, producers, cinematographers and enthusiasts from around the world. The festival attracts some big names in the national and international cinema industry with past guests including Martin Sheen, Pierce Brosnan and Saoirse Ronan, to name just a few.

    Yes, gift vouchers are available to purchase at the hotel reception desk or online.     What room types does the hotel offer?

    Maldron Hotel Oranmore boasts 113 spacious and comfortable hotel rooms. Depending on your needs, you can choose between 5 different room types, including double rooms, twin rooms with a double and single bed, triple rooms, executive queen rooms and family rooms.

    Are there wheelchair accessible rooms available?

    Yes, we have 2 fully wheelchair accessible rooms with walk-in showers and support railings.

    Does the hotel have family rooms?

    We have a variety of family rooms available at Maldron Hotel Oranmore. Depending on how much space you need, we offer family rooms for two adults and one child which feature a double and a single bed in each of them. For families of two adults and two children, there are two bedding options, a double bed with two single beds or a double bed, single bed and pull out couch. We also have large family rooms available which comfortably sleep up to two adults and three children which will need to be booked directly with the property.

    Does the hotel provide cots?

    Yes, we have cots available. Please note it in the comments or give us a call on +353 (0)91 792 244 at the time of your booking to reserve one.

    Do you have triple rooms for groups at the hotel?

    Yes, we have three single beds in our triple rooms. In total, we have 14 rooms what makes it the perfect location for group getaways.

    Are the hotel rooms air-conditioned?

    No, unfortunately, our bedrooms are not air-conditioned.

    Do the bathrooms have a shower or a bath?

    All bedrooms have a bath except for our wheelchair accessible rooms.

    Does the hotel offer wake-up calls?

    Yes, we do offer wake-up calls. Please speak to a member of the reception team to arrange.

    What amenities are included in the room?

    What dining options are available at the hotel?

    At Maldron Hotel Oranmore, we offer a wide variety of dining options. From Vitality Breakfast with lots of healthy options, the delicious Q Bar menu to the Grain & Grill restaurant, there is something to choose from for every taste and occasion.

    Does the hotel offer breakfast?

    Yes, we are renowned for a great selection of breakfast options available each morning. Choose from traditional grilled breakfast items as well as healthier and nutritious options to kickstart your morning. Breakfast is served 7 days a week in our Grain & Grill restaurant, Monday to Friday from 7am to 10am and weekends and bank holidays from 7:30am to 11am.

    What time is dinner served?

    Dinner is served daily from 6pm to 9pm in our Grain & Grill restaurant which is renowned for its exceptional dishes and extensive á la carte menu created from seasonal and local ingredients. Alternatively, you can visit our Q Bar which has a wide range of bar food available.

    Does the restaurant cater food for allergies?

    Yes, all of our menus have a full allergy listing. Please inform your waiter if you have any allergies, vegetarian or dietary requirements and our kitchen team will be delighted to assist.

    Does the restaurant offer a dedicated kid’s menu?

    Yes, we offer a separate kid’s menu for our younger diners.

    Do you provide room service?

    Yes, we provide room service 24 hours a day with a tray charge of €7.50.

    Please note that due to Covid-19 we do not provide room service. However, we do have a Click & Collect service where you can order and pre-pay for your meal on our guest platform and we will contact you when your meal is ready for collection.

    Is there a reservation for dinner required?

    Do you cater for large groups? Can I book a private dining space for a special occasion?

    Does the hotel offer a swimming pool and gym facilities on-site?

    Yes, leisure centre at Maldron Hotel Oranmore has a 20m heated swimming pool with a separate kiddies pool. We also have a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room on-site. For our more active guests, we also provide a fully equipped and state-of-the-art gym catering for cardio, core and strength training. Whether you want to maintain your workout routine or plan to relax and unwind, you can do both in Club Vitae at Maldron Hotel Oranmore.

    What are the opening hours of the swimming pool and gym?

    Club Vitae at Maldron Hotel Oranmore opens from 6am to 10pm Monday to Friday and from 8am to 9pm on weekends and bank holidays.

    Kids are welcome up to 7.30pm daily.

    Is there an age limit for using the leisure facilities?

    Yes, children under 16 are not permitted to use the jacuzzi, sauna, steam room or the gym. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times and must be fully supervised when using the facilities.

    Yes, we have a dedicated conference centre on the 1st floor, providing 6 bright and flexible meeting rooms suitable for small meetings, interviews, training days or courses.

    How many people do your meeting rooms accommodate?

    Our meeting rooms can accommodate up to 20 people boardroom style in our smaller meeting rooms and up to 100 people theatre style in our large meeting rooms.

    Please note our capacities have been greatly reduced to 20 delegates n our large meeting rooms with the introduction of social distancing requirements.

    What equipment is included in the meeting rooms?

    All our meeting rooms are equipped with flipcharts, pads, pencils and a projector. In addition, our meeting rooms have national daylight and black-out blinds. Free high-speed WiFi will be provided complimentary in all meeting rooms as well as air conditioning. 

    Are there food and beverage options available?

    Does the hotel offer any family facilities and activities?

    Yes, our Games Room is located on the first floor of the hotel and it is a hidden treasure with lots of toys, games and books to enjoy. It has a soft seating area, ideal for your little one to sit and play a game or read a storybook from our new library. We also have a new imaginative play section, with a dual oven kitchen for the budding chef, and a wooden garage for the little mechanic. For the older children there is a full-size air hockey table and a full-size pool table – always guaranteed to keep the boredom at bay.

    To allow for social distancing we recommend pre-booking your preferred times when you arrive at the hotel. Our reception team would be delighted to assist you with this on check-in. We also have a fantastic playground which is located just outside the Club Vitae Health Club.

    Does the hotel run a kids club?

    Yes, our Crafty Kids activities are available during all school holidays and run nightly between 5pm to 10pm. It’s suitable for ages between 4 and 12 years of age. Different activities are planned to ensure there is a variety.

    Please note that due to Covid-19, we’re not running our Crafty Kids Club until further notice.

    Is there a babysitting service available?

    Yes, we have a number of reliable Garda vetted babysitters on hand. Simply speak with any of our reception team to get one organised.

    What should I do if I haven’t received a booking confirmation?

    What payment methods does the hotel accept?

    Maldron Hotel Oranmore accepts all major credit/debit cards, cash as well as contactless payments.

    What is the hotel’s credit/debit card policy?

    A valid credit/debit card is required to secure all bookings made online or over the phone, unless in cases where this is otherwise stated. Please note nothing is charged to the card at booking stage when booking directly with the hotel (with the exception of advance purchase offers or bookings that require a deposit. This will be clearly noted on the booking offer).

    For all rooms that are being paid for in cash must be accompanied with photographic ID. No rooms will be let unless payment is guaranteed.

    What age are children for the purpose of hotel packages?

    Under 12’s are considered to be children.

    How do I make a group or multiple room booking?

    Are there any age restrictions when booking a hotel room?

    To book a hotel room, you must be at least 18 years old. All under 18s must be accompanied by a guardian or parent.

    Can I show up at the hotel without a booking?

    Yes, you can, however, we would always recommend to call ahead to the hotel or booking online prior to arriving to secure your reservation and to avoid disappointment.

    Can I extend my stay?

    Yes, depending on availability, we’ll be happy to accommodate you for further nights at an additional cost. Please contact our reception team if you plan to extend your stay.

    How can I amend or cancel my booking?

    If you have booked directly with the hotel, you can amend or cancel your booking by visiting the ‘Manage Booking’ section on our website by using your confirmation number and email address. Alternatively, you can call us directly on +353 (0)91 792 244 or res.galway@maldronhotels.com to cancel or amend your booking.

    How can I cancel my reservation if I booked via a third-party website?

    If you have booked via a third-party, you will need to contact the third party directly to amend or cancel your booking as we cannot do that on your behalf. Please note that they have their own cancellation policies, so please refer to your confirmation email.

    What is the cancellation policy?

    If you have booked the reservation directly with the hotel over the phone or online, Maldron Hotel Oranmore offers free cancellation up to 2pm the day prior to arrival unless advance purchase non-refundable rate was selected. Please note that some special offers and key dates outlined in the terms and conditions may specify a special cancellation policy applicable to that offer and date.

    What does the “no-show” policy entail?

    If a guest makes a reservation and fails to show up and doesn’t cancel the reservation successfully then we will take payment for the first night’s stay from the credit or debit card provided at the time of booking. If your booking is advance purchase, the total amount will be non-refundable and you will incur a 100% penalty charge for the entire duration of your stay.

    How far is the hotel from Galway City?

    Maldron Hotel Oranmore is located 10.4km from the heart of Galway City.

    Are there any airports nearby?

    Yes, we have two airports that are close to the hotel. Shannon Airport is only 50 minutes’ drive away and Ireland West Aiport is just 60 minutes’ drive away from Maldron Hotel Oranmore. There are excellent bus facilities which service both routes.

    Are there any shopping areas nearby?

    Yes, Oranmore Village has a selection of boutiques and homeware shopping. We’d also highly recommend a visit to the city (it’s only a short drive away) as there are lots of diverse and high street options available. Galway Shopping Centre in Headford Road is located 9.1km from the hotel or Eyre Square shopping centre is located 9.4km away in Eyre Square.

    How close are public transport links to the hotel?

    There is a bus stop just a 5-minute walk away at the Oran Town Shopping Centre. This serves Galway city (404) and many other destinations such as the Cliffs of Moher (350) as well as the CityLink to Dublin.

    Oranmore Train Station is a 20-minute walk or 5-minute taxi journey away.

    Is there a car rental station near the hotel?

    Yes, Budget Car Rental is located just over 15 minutes’ drive away from the hotel in Eyre Square in Galway City.

    Is parking available at the hotel?

    Yes, we offer complimentary car parking to all of our guests and visitors.
