Indoors & Outdoors: Guide to Glasgow in October 2022

Things To Do in Glasgow in October 2022

The month of October marks a shift in many ways. It is the last quarter of the year, the long light nights are gradually being replaced by darker evenings, the trees take on an auburn and red colourway, and leaves cover the ground. It culminates in Halloween, after which all eyes fall towards winter and the festive season. Besides Halloween activity, it can be difficult to know what to get up to in this month of fall – is it too cold to be outside, or is it a waste to not make the most of the last mild weather before winter sets in? Glasgow weather is unpredictable, and so we are offering two indoor and outdoor activities which can fill your October calendar and make it one to remember – while still keeping an eye on the purse strings.

Indoors: I Got Chills.. They’re Multiplying

Travel back to a simpler time and immerse yourself in the world of Danny and Sandy with the Glasgow Light Opera Club’s presentation of Grease at the King’s Theatre in Glasgow. Expect all of the classic musical numbers from You’re The One That I Want to Greased Lightnin’. Their first show back since 2019, the Glasgow Light Opera Club are ready to give it all they have on the stage with this award-winning musical.

Enjoy it with your family, make it a date night, or come along with your mates – this event is suitable for everyone.
Tickets start from just £13.00; show is running from Tuesday October 25th – Saturday October 29th.
We are only a 10-minute walk from King’s Theatre and so are the perfect spot to stay and make a night of it. Why not check your dates now?

Ashton Lane

Indoors: Kick Back in the Grosvenor Picture Theatre

Grosvenor Picture Theatre, nestled in the quaintly cobbled Ashton Lane in Glasgow’s West End, is the cosy spot perfect for an autumnal evening of sinking into a luxury sofa and immersing yourself in film. As Glasgow’s oldest cinema, the showings vary from recent releases to all-time classics. Expect intimate seat-side service from the team of Usherettes, with a wide selection of sweet treats and ice creams. Recently refurbished over the summer, the two-screen cinema is intimate and unique for your October plans.

From the 28th – 31st October, the cinema will be showing different Halloween horrors each night to get you into a suitably spooky mood. Expect A Nightmare On Elm Street (28th), IT (29th), The Thing (30th) and Lost Boys (31st).

Located in the heart of Glasgow City, less than a 5-minute walk to the nearest Subway station, Maldron Hotel Glasgow City is ready to welcome you for your cinema night. Check your dates with us.

Outdoors: Take a wander around Glasgow University

The University of Glasgow, the fourth oldest university in the United Kingdom, was opened in 1451. Located in Glasgow’s West End, the university grounds are primed to show their true beauty in the autumn months. Famously likened to Hogwarts from JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series, the architecture to be enjoyed is enchanting for an afternoon in October. Stroll through the cloisters, take a look around the grounds including the East and West Quadrangles, and walk where the likes of economist Adam Smith and pioneer of television John Logie Baird walked.

You can take a self-guided tour or attend a scheduled tour from Tuesday to Sunday at 2pm. You can also arrange a tour for large groups or for special purposes directly with the university.

Top tip: If you attend on a Thursday, there is a lunchtime concert every week during term time, which has just started by the time October rolls round.

The ideal thing about visiting here is once you are satisfied with your exploration, you can fall into one of the many cosy West End cafes and bars to warm up.

Parks & Gardens

Outdoors: Go Back in Time at GlasGLOW

A firm favourite that goes hand-in-hand with darker evenings, GlasGLOW at the Botanic Gardens is popular in the winter season, but they put on an equally dazzling show in October. The theme for the October event is The Land That Time Forgot – and dinosaurs are roaming Scotland. Expect an epic 60-minute adventure which will brighten up your October evening and make for great fun with your friends or family.

GlasGLOW kicks off from 26th October at Botanic Gardens. Under 3’s go free, and adult tickets are priced at £22, child tickets at £12. Check your dates with us.
