Bars in Galway

Busker Browne’s

Located on Cross Street Upper in a building with history over 400 years old, Busker Browne’s is a versatile place to spend your night with 3 bars over 3 floors with food and drink served. Upstairs is in-depth with history with high ceilings, stone walls and leaded windows.

Food is served daily and live music is on Thursday to Monday with a DJ every Saturday night. It is a popular party venue with room to dance on the bottom floor and place to chat with friends in cosy booths or at tables.

The Front Door

Located across two streets on Cross Street and High Street, The Front door incorporates 2 pubs in 1 with Sonny Molloy’s Whiskey Bar on High Street. The Front Door is an iconic and popular pub in Galway city. It hosts 5 bars across 2 floors with many hidden cosy alcoves. Decorated with dark wood, stained glass and open fires, The Front Door is a warm, cosy and relaxed place to have a quiet pint to the front of the pub while being full of energy for people looking for a fun night out to the back of the pub and upstairs.

It has an extensive menu served daily with traditional Irish dishes and many pasta and international dishes too. It has music across the 7 nights from bands to DJs and has a late license until 2am each night. When it comes to drink it has a full range of cocktails and whiskeys. It has large HD TVs throughout, making it the perfect place to watch any sporting game.

An Púcán

Located on Foster Street, An Púcán serves food and drink and is a perfect set for live music sessions. It hosts 2 bars, a large beer garden, 2 smoking areas and live music daily. Each evening, An Púcán has well known traditional Irish musicians and live cover bands every Friday and Saturday night, with a DJ on every Saturday night until late.

Closely located to Connacht Rugby sportsground, An Púcán is an ideal place for any avid rugby fan to warm up before a game or escape that cold and watch the game on one of their HD TVs followed by a place to celebrate a glorious win.

The Dáil Bar

Located on Middle Street, The Dáil bar is the perfect place to begin or end any night out. During the day relax and enjoy the friendly atmosphere and warm yourself up with something from their menu. At night enjoy the live music as part of a party or with some friends and try out their famous cocktails. From Sunday to Thursday enjoy live music and a late licence up until 2.00am on Thursday to Sunday.

Garavan’s Bar

Located in the heart of Galway city’s main shopping thoroughfare, stands the historic building that is Garavan’s Public House dated back to 1650. There is a long-standing tradition of excellent whiskey-brewing in Ireland and Irish Whiskey, whose name derives from the Gaelic Uisce Beatha (‘Water of Life’), has been synonymous with Garavan’s since its inception 80 years ago. They offer an extensive collection of delicious (and some rare) whiskeys, one of the largest in Galway. Sourced from all over the world, these can be viewed in the beautifully handmade whiskey cabinets located throughout the bar.

The Kings Head

The Kings Head is located on High Street and has been for over 800 years. Research shows the building has been in existence since the 13th century. The Kings Head has it all from its superb reputation for food and drink with live comedy and music thrown in too. Tommy Tiernan for the past number of years has used The Kings Head as a venue to try out his new comedy material.

Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter is one of Galway’s hot spots for tourists and visitors alike. It’s got everything: live music, two bars and great food! The 1520 is eclectic and different, with a touch of traditional Irish pub and a dash of everything else! The large front bar features big tables for dining with a group, as well as snugs and high stools for enjoying a pint or some pub grub.

There’s plenty of room for dancing too when bands take to the bandstand. Or, if you’d prefer a few quiet pints with your mates, the Penney Bar at the back has comfy chairs and a warm, cosy feeling.

Tribeton

Tribeton brings the hipster element to Galway city with its chic and contemporary feel. Located on Merchants road it is away from the hustle and bustle of the city folk. Tribeton has an industrial design with art décor, vintage lighting and antique mirrors with a relaxed vibe and natural light during that day with rhythmic music and an electric atmosphere at night.

Food is served all day throughout the week. Prosecco is served with brunch at weekends from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Tribeton is popular with its extensive drinks menu with a cocktail menu designed by their in house mixologist.

Seven Bar and Restaurant

Located on Bridge Street, Seven Bar and Restaurant is a new bar to Galway that brings food, drink and live music together in one venue. It has a contemporary design with contrasting areas across the 3 bars. Live entertainment is provided 4 nights a week by some of Ireland’s top bands and DJs. Food is served daily.

Seven bar and Restaurant has an extensive and exclusive cocktail menu that has something for everyone’s taste buds. Live sports are shown each evening on their eight large HD televisions and one 2.7metre diagonal projector over their 3 bars.

Mc Gettigans

Mc Gettigans is located on Prospect Hill on Eyre Square in the heart of the city. Opened from 11am daily; lunch and dinner options are served. It also serves signature crafted cocktails, a treat to all who try. Mc Gettigans host a unique interior with the library and garden area decorated with indoor trees.

Their bar is raised and is positioned in the centre of the ground floor. Top sports are shown on their HD TVs daily across the 7 days with music sessions on the menu also.

Taylor’s

Located at 7 Dominick Street Upper, the doors of Taylor’s Bar reopened in 2018 and the Galway public came out in force to be part of this very special occasion. The bar has a very long history on Dominick Street, dating back to the early 19th Century.

This really is a hidden gem, waiting to be discovered – it has one of Galway’s first and very best beer gardens, a great selection of beers and spirits, superb wine menu, cocktail list, gin and Irish whiskey selections. Open late till 2am every Friday and Saturday with DJs and live music seven days a week, as well as live sports on seven HD screens including two in the garden where barbeques will also be hosted.

The Skeff

The Skeff Bar is located on Eyre Square in the heart of Galway city since 1850. It has 6 bars across 5 different floors. It has a 10 foot screen in its sports bar on its 3rd floor, an extensive cocktail bar on its 5thfloor and a whiskey vault with over 200 whiskeys on their 1st floor.

They provide music and DJ’s and has a late license 7 days a week for all to experience.

Nightclubs

Electric Garden

Electric Garden is located on Abbeygate Street Upper, Galway. It consists of four rooms, Electric Theatre, The Factory, The Garden and The Glasshouse. Electric is a space that approaches nightlife differently, comprising of a bar, restaurant, arcade and club all rolled into one! The venue is a liberated party space to come together and dance the old-fashioned way – to celebrate, innovate and be part of the legacy of partying in The West. You can journey through the different levels of the club from the Glasshouse to the Garden to the main floor. There’s a different vibe and a different party to be found in each unique area!

And now Electric have expanded so you no longer have to wait until 11pm to enter the venue. Electric are offering games and good times from the early evening in their arcade bar. You’ll be able to bash some buttons with classic video games like Space Invaders and Donkey Kong, compete for the title of King or Queen of the pinball machine, or have a full-on dance-off on the mammoth dance machine. The arcade bar is open from 4pm Mon-Fri and from 12pm on Saturday and Sunday. The club is open every night from 11pm until late.

DNA

DNA is Galway’s newest night time music venue, recently renovated to bring a beautifully designed, three-level club to Galway City Centre. They offer a bit of luxury and elegance combined with a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Spread over three levels with 4 bars, two dance floors, two smoking terraces and a large private VIP area for our table service customers, DNA is a late-night setting offering a unique experience in the heart of Galway City.

Halo is the upmarket sophisticated sister of Electric Garden nightclub and is located Abbeygate Street Upper, Galway. Open on Friday and Saturday nights until 2.00am, it is aimed at an older audience of over 23s. It is a perfect for couples or groups who are in Galway for the weekend and want a more sophisticated night out with an older crowd.
