Caring for our Environment

Living Green is Maldron Hotels & Partners environmental movement which inspires care for our environment as a “Way of Life” throughout our hotels; both for our people and our guests.

At Maldron Hotel Oranmore Galway, we care deeply for our environment and are in the process of introducing environmentally-friendly changes to help play our part in protecting it. We have made some changes already and each time you visit us, we hope you will see others implemented.

We are encouraging our staff to use the bike to work scheme. All around the hotel we are looking at single-use items to reduce waste and asking our suppliers to minimise packaging and look at sustainable options. We are sourcing local suppliers where we can to cut down on food miles. We have taken the Irish Water Conservation Pledge and are reducing water waste which includes slightly reducing flow rates in taps and showers.

Insulation makes a difference to heat loss so we are adding more insulation anywhere it’s practical. We have changed our flood lighting to low energy LEDs and introducing endocubes in refrigerators to save energy.

Here are a few other ways we are trying to make a difference.

Wildflower Garden

We have a lovely Wildflower Garden located in our hotel grounds, just by the entrance to the Grain & Grill Restaurant. It is a small space planted with local fauna to help wildlife thrive which can make a big difference, particularly in an urban area. The garden comes into full bloom in Spring and Summer and even has a Bee Hotel, made from recycled material by our staff, to help the local bees!

EV Car Charging Points

We have three EasyGo Electric Car Charge Point’s located in the hotel car park. They can be found on the north side of the hotel, near to the Main Entrance to our Reception area. To use our charge points, you will need an EasyGo key fob or use the EasyGo App. EasyGo chargers can be free to use or require payment – all payment details can be found on the EasyGo App.

Low Carbon Meals

On our Restaurant and Bar Menu you will find delicious vegetarian and vegan options which help us cut down on carbon emissions. You can read more about our Dining options at Maldron Hotel Galway here.

Help Us During Your Stay

You can assist us to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle during your stay with a few simple steps:

  • Put used towels in the bath/shower that need replacing
  • Hang towels you wish to reuse on the bathroom rail
  • Turn off all lights and electrical appliances whenever you leave your bedroom
  • Save water by not running taps and showers unnecessarily
  • Place all recyclables in the bedroom bin and all general waste in the bathroom bin

Reducing Single Use Waste

We have implemented a number of ways to help reduce the amount of single use items we utilise in the hotel.

We offer guests in our Red Bean Roastery a 10% discount off their hot drink when they bring in their own re-usable cup! This helps reduce the amount of takeaway coffee cups we give out which have a negative impact on the environment. By offering our guests a discount, we reward those who help us in our environmental green plan.

We also no longer provide single use plastic water bottles in bedrooms, and instead promote the use of re-fillable water bottles by being part of The Tap Map and asking guests to come to our bar to refill their bottles!

Our Grain & Grill restaurant and Bar does offer takeaway options, but we do not supply plastic takeaway cutlery. Instead we provide sustainable bamboo cutlery which is much better for our planet.
