Things to do with the family outside of Dublin

Tayto Park

Tayto Park is the perfect day out for all of the family! Located in the beautiful countryside of Co. Meath, a 25-minute drive from Maldron Hotel Newlands Cross,  Tayto Park is Ireland’s first dedicated theme park and zoo. The park is built around the factory that produces the iconic Irish Tayto crisp. Tayto Park offers a wide range of attractions for all ages! Take a ride on the popular Cu Chulainn Rollercoaster, Europe’s largest wooden rollercoaster or prepare to get splashed on the very exciting Viking Voyage. If you need a break from all of the thrills take a stroll around the Tayto Park Zoo. Here you will be able to see a variety of animals such as lions, tigers, lynx, monkeys and all of your favourite farm yard friends.

Powerscourt House & Gardens

The stunning Powerscourt Estate is located in Enniscorthy, Co. Wicklow just 30 minutes away from Maldron Hotel Newlands Cross. The most famous attraction of the Powerscourt Estate is the stunning gardens. Powerscourt Gardens were recently voted as No.3 in the Top 10 Gardens of the World by National Geographic! Carlingford Adventure Centre, Louth has a brilliant selection of outdoor activities available all year round. With activities for both kids and adults, everyone is guaranteed to have an amazing time! Some of the family-fun activities include zip-lining, an aerial adventure park, kayaking, water trampolining and much more. Each activity session lasts up to 3 hours and is supervised by professional staff. Insurance and the use of specialised equipment is also included with each session.

Clara Lara Fun Park

50-minute drive from hotel

Clara Lara is the ideal place to come for an adventure filled day for the whole family. Clara Lara Fun Park is situated in the stunning Wicklow Hills, a 50-minute drive from Maldron Hotel Newlands Cross, is the perfect location for children to explore and have fun. Kids can try their hand at a variety of activities such as canoeing, obstacle courses, ziplining, rowing, go-karting and much more! Be sure to try out the Aqua Shuttle, an exhilarating water slide designed for the real adrenaline junkies. Have a break from all of the fun by taking a seat and having some lunch at one of the many benches spread across the park.

The Greenan Maze

Make the short 1-hour trip down to the Greenan Maze, a traditional family run farm based in the quiet countryside of the Wicklow Mountains. It is the perfect place for active, animal loving families to come and enjoy a great day out with nature! The highlight of the farm is undoubtedly the maze itself. This tricky hedge maze is sure to puzzle even the sharpest of minds while the look of both bafflement and excitement on the kids’ faces is priceless. There is plenty of other attractions to both see and do including visiting the farm animals, exploring the farm museum and going on a nature walk.

Clonfert Pet Farm

Clonfert Pet Farm truly is a fantastic day out for the family. With so much to do and see, everyone will definitely be exhausted by the end of it all! Located in Maynooth Co Kildare, just 30 minutes drive away from Maldron Hotel Newlands Cross. For as little as €7 visitors have access to the animals as well as a wide range of fun activities such as 2 outdoor playgrounds, bouncy castles, mini golf, indoor play areas and go karts. There are also family rates available with 2 adults and 2 kids costing €20 while 2 adults and 3 kids being €25. Animals that can be found at Clonfert Pet Farm include llamas, goats, cows, ponies and alpacas to name a few. Visit during lambing season and you might be lucky enough to bottle feed the baby lambs.

Irish National Stud & Gardens

The Irish National Stud in Kildare is home to some of the most glorious horses and lavish gardens to be found anywhere in the world. The stud has something to do for all of the family, and even better its within easy reach from Maldron Hotel Newlands Cross being only a 30-minute drive away. The farm itself is home to some of the world’s most famous race horses such as Hurricane Fly and Kicking King. You can learn more about the history of Irish horses in the Irish Horse Museum. The Irish Studs Japanese Gardens are also another extremely popular attraction, known to be one of the best across Europe. There is also a designated kid play area located beside the beautiful St Fiachra’s garden. Afterwards you can grab some food from the on-site café or if you prefer have a sit-down meal in the lovely Japanese Gardens Restaurant.
