Loose Cannon

Loose Cannon Cheese and Wine bar in Dublin city centre is a small outfit that offers an expert selection of wines by the glass or bottle as well as a fabulous collection of cheese both in cheeseboard and toastie form.
Situated on the south side of the Liffey, Loose Cannon is a 15-minute walk from Maldron Hotel Kevin Street and a short meander from Temple Bar and the buzzy restaurants and bars on Drury Street and South William Street. It also makes for a delightful lunchtime detour from shopping on Grafton Street.
No reservations accepted, but there’s standing room and seating available.
Love Supreme
57 Manor Street, Stoneybatter, D7
Thursday-Sunday: Wine Bar – until 11 PM
Located in one of Dublin’s liveliest neighbourhoods, by day, Love Supreme is one of the city’s best loved coffee spots. However, like Cinderella, it now transforms into a cheese and wine bar at night.
Settle in and you’ll enjoy wines by the glass or by the bottle with cheese boards (including a vegan cheese board), sausage rolls, and chocolate to nibble on. The intimate size of the space makes it ideal for date night or small groups.
Drop in for coffee any time, but if you want to nab a table for wine and cheese, do book ahead.
Note Dublin
26 Fenian St, Dublin 2
Wednesday – Sunday: 5pm – late
Note is the latest project aiming to be one of the best wine bars in Dublin. It started as an intimate outfit focused solely on developing a carefully selected wine list but is now extending its attention to detail to a full kitchen. If you’re lucky, you might catch one of their “wine tasting Saturdays” where you can sample some fine wine from different winemakers and suppliers.
Note is also open for coffee and pastries in the morning, making it a perfect stop before a stroll around Merrion Square or the National Gallery.
Reservations are recommended, particularly on weekends. You might want to grab a taxi back to Maldron Hotel Kevin Street, but if it’s a warm summer evening, it’s about a half an hour walk.
Ely
22 Ely Place, Dublin 2

With views of Stephen’s Green, Ely Wine Bar pairs an excellent wine selection with a focus on local produce. Whether you make plans for dinner or drop in for a browse of the bar bites menu on a Friday or Saturday night, you’ll find wines (and cocktails) perfectly paired with everything on the menu.
The wine selection here focuses on organic, natural, and biodynamic wines. But the best part is the list of wines by the glass is as long as wines by the bottle, which means you can try as many wines as you fancy while taking in the cosy atmosphere. Ely is the kind of place you’d happily spend a full evening, whether you’re on a date or out with a small group of friends.
Topple out of Ely and turn left for the pubs on Baggot Street if you want to continue on your evening. Or if you’re ready to drift off into your food coma, head 15 minutes in the opposite direction back to Maldron Hotel Kevin Street.
Fallon & Byrne – Exchequer Street Wine Cellar

Fallon & Byrne is a Dublin institution that the average visitor might write off as a spot that only appeals to locals (with some cash to burn). But if you’re tempted in and make a bee-line for the stairs, you’ll find yourself standing in one of the best (and best value) wine bars in Dublin City Centre: Fallon & Byrne Wine Cellar.
Downstairs, you’ll find a newly revamped Italian menu (think: pizza, pasta, cheese and charcuterie) and unfettered access to all the Italian wines your heart desires. The wine shop upstairs means wines by the glass are not a problem: you have 50 to choose from. But if it’s a bottle you’re after, you’ll pay just €1 corkage.
Walk by and drop in. There are plenty of tables, and you’re only a 15-minute amble back to Maldron Hotel Kevin Street.

Another new addition to the Dublin scene, Table Wine is a wine bar and restaurant that is small but packs a punch. One of a handful of natural wine bars in Dublin, its location in Portobello (Dublin 8) is bound to make it a local favourite.
