The Playhouse theatre was built in 1992 on Artillery Street with just £300 and since then it has bloomed into one of Ireland’s leading award-winning community art resource centres. The theatre is community centred and helps charities.
Since its opening, it has been nominated for several awards for the building design. It compromises of a 175-seat theatre, dance studio, gallery, an outreach department and is also home to many arts and culture groups.
Its role is to make arts accessible to all and works to deliver education, arts and community-based work to a range of people. They provide a podium for emerging actors, theatre and art students and give them the opportunity for real-life experience in the theatre.
Upcoming events include the celebration of Arts and the elderly, exhibition of paintings by a variety of artists including Eamon McAteer and a number of theatre performances in the coming months.
