Food Trail In Cork

Surrounded by vast farmlands and major fishing ports, it’s no wonder Cork is known as ‘Ireland’s Food Capital’. Fancy yourself a foodie? Looks like we have that in common! Like any big city, there are many great tours you can take, where you’ll learn about the history and food culture in Cork. Though why not make the most of that romantic trip for two with a DIY food experience? Follow our food trail to enjoy delicious, local foods. We’ve got you covered, with everything from your morning coffee to your evening treat.

But First, Coffee!

Myo Café

Nestled near the famous Shandon Bells on Pope’s Quay and overlooking the River Lee, is the cosy Myo Café. Just a 3-minute walk from Maldron Hotel Shandon, this cute little spot is a favourite of ours. Here you’ll enjoy a steaming cup of organic, Fairtrade coffee. The café is known to serve one of the best cups of coffee in the city. Many visitors also rave about their carrot and pineapple cake. Yum!

Red Bean Roastery

If you’re on the other side of the river and in search of a heavenly brew, pop into Red Bean Roastery at Maldron Hotel South Mall. Our signature blend captures warmth, happiness, and great flavour all in one cup! There’s a great selection of specialty teas, and tasty snacks and treats, prepared fresh in-house daily.

A Most Bountiful Brunch

Liberty Grill

Liberty Grill may claim the city’s greatest brunch, with all the classics you’ll love. From eggs Benedict to French toast, and we’ve heard great things about the fresh sourdough bread. The restaurant situated on Washington Street ranks among the top restaurants in Cork. Definitely worth stopping by for pancakes!

Market Lane

Are you more of a lunch than a brunch person? If like Joey Tribbiani, you love a good sandwich, then Market Lane is the place for you! You’ll find the restaurant on Oliver Plunkett Street. This lively and modern place is the best spot in town for a soup and sambo combo in our opinion.

Winner, Winner, Cork City for Dinner!

Elbow Lane

Also, on Oliver Plunkett Street, is Elbow Lane Brew and Smokehouse. It’s got great food, great atmosphere and you guessed it, their own in-house nano-brewery. Some say it’s the best steak they’ve ever tasted!

Quinlan’s Seafood Bar

You didn’t think we’d forget to recommend our top choice for seafood now, did you? Get ready to get ‘hooked’ on Cork’s coastal cuisine! Quinlan’s Seafood Bar has got to be the big fish for serving up the freshest catch of the day. With local, quality foods at reasonable prices, the restaurant is a favourite among the people of Cork. Along with the English Market, it’s located on Prince’s Street.

Treat Yourself

The English Market

No trip to Cork would be complete without a visit to the English Market. It’s been in use since 1788 and is the oldest trading covered food market in Europe. The food culture focuses on natural, local produce and influences from other provinces. It is open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 5.30 pm so make sure to drop in. You’ll enjoy foods such as pasta, cheese, cured meats, sushi, and freshly bakes goods. Plus, they’ve got a whole shop, just for chocolate! Whatever food you’re feeling, you’re sure to find it here!

Maldron Hotel South Mall

Make a break of it in Ireland’s foodie capital at Maldron Hotel South Mall. Located right in the heart of the city, you can indulge in all the local cuisine right on the doorstep. Enjoy a relaxing night’s sleep before starting the day again with a food lover’s heaven – the Maldron Vitality Breakfast.
