The Belfast Zoological Gardens are located in a more secluded area of Belfast, which gives it a uniquely tranquil environment for its animals. The zoo is 55 acres and occupies over 1,200 animals, covering 140 different species. It has a whopping 300,000 annual visitors, making it one of the top fee-paying attractions in the North of Ireland.
The zoo’s purpose is for the conservation of endangered species, which in fact would be under threat in their natural habitats. It has a number of breeding programmes that help species that are in danger. Belfast City Council fund £1.5m every year to help run the zoo.

Animals range from California sea lions, western lowland gorillas, Malayan sun bears, reptiles, amphibians, Asian elephants, penguins, meerkats, chimpanzees and much more.
