The Belfast Zoological Gardens are located in a more secluded area of Belfast, which gives it a uniquely tranquil environment for its animals. The zoo is 55 acres and occupies over 1,200 animals, covering 140 different species. It has a whopping 300,000 annual visitors, making it one of the top fee-paying attractions in the North of Ireland.

The zoo’s purpose is for the conservation of endangered species, which in fact would be under threat in their natural habitats. It has a number of breeding programmes that help species that are in danger. Belfast City Council fund £1.5m every year to help run the zoo.

You can plan your visit to experience the daily talks and feeding times for the animals of the zoo. Animals range from California sea lions, western lowland gorillas, Malayan sun bears, reptiles, amphibians, Asian elephants, penguins, meerkats, chimpanzees and much more. Belfast Zoo is family friendly and has educational visits available as well as an Explorer’s Club for 7 to 12-year-olds, which will keep your little explorers busy during the school holidays.

There’s plenty to learn during your visit, ranging from animal discovery sessions for nursery schools to the psychology of more than 130 species of animals for further and higher education. Belfast Zoo ensures to fulfil your learning objectives.
